@pichurka, I cannot imagine how science can give meaning to the universe and our existence in it. You need religion for this.Science bring facts and facts and facts. I don't think that science will some day discover a fact which will be be living or dying for.
@pichurka, I'm not sure. Having faith very rarely includes being rational... :)
@Kamelia_Genova, I think you are actually supporting my point :). I have nothing against faithfulness (or, more precisely, against adhering to a set of values), and I am definitely against religiousness.
@Steliyan_Petkov_Georgiev, I strongly agree with you on this! The only thing i'd like to ad for you and @pichurka also: If you believe a new religion is needed, then why do you need to use the old definition of it? :) Anyway, to me personally what matters more is to afford ourselves be faithful, not religious. Just remember how many great things happened out of faith and how many cruel or plainly stupid in the name of a religion..
@Steliyan_Petkov_Georgiev, I don't agree. I think religion presupposes a nonscientific belief concerning origin and the purpose of the universe. Religion used to substitute the knowledge we now have about such things. I think it's time we came to our senses
@pichurka, According to Wikipedia: "Religion is the belief in and worship of a god or gods, or a set of beliefs concerning the origin and purpose of the universe." What I describe lies in the second part of the definition.
@Steliyan_Petkov_Georgiev, I don't think what you are describing is a religion at all.
I believe we can. I just don't think we have religions adequate to the modern times. Old religions are too dogmatic and new religions...well most of them are not really religions, but sects which try to steal some money from you teaching you a questionable philosophy. We need a modern religion which either has no god or at least it is not personified. We need a religions which is aligned with our current scientific knowledge of the world and with the Big Bang in particular. We need a religion which does not impose dogmas or rituals but gives us freedom of choice and teaches us goodness and benevolence.
No, we can't. For the most part religions contribute to the creation of boundaries between people. Although religions preach many positive values, lots of the preachings are morally outdated and belong to a society from at least a couple of centuries ago. Religions also make room for religious extremism (and I don't only mean the terrorist tendencies of some Muslims).
