Elton John proclaimed a song from LG'a new album the next gay anthem. Things are shaping a little by little. You hear news as this one every day on the popular media.

@Valentin_Ivanov, the future will see bigger talents who will enjoy greater popularity. It is exactly the growing accessibility and interconnectedness that makes the concept of a "pop legend" or a "rock legend" obsolete. Today's and future star will only be very popular or famous.

Pichurka, I disagree about the time of great stars being gone.

The population and interconnectedness of this planet is increasing every day. Of course there will be big stars in the future. Even bigger than today's.

@Steliyan_Petkov_Georgiev, I think in the future we'll be still appreciating LG, not idealizing her.

@pichurka, I am not sure if in the beginning of Madona's career people were not thinking the same you think now - that the time of the big stars has remained in the pass with the John Lennon's generation.
About the founding fathers - I believe you need time to idealize someone. They must have had their flaws, but people tend to idealize the past.

@Steliyan_Petkov_Georgiev, I don't agree. Madonna was/is and icon (I'm not a fan actually) that was created when people liked to idolize the qualities of popular figures. I don't question LG's qualities or popularity, in fact I think she's great (maybe better than Madonna). I think, however, that today we are much less likely to stand in awe before a capable artist (or anyone else, actually), and this doesn't stop us from acknowledging such person's talent or ability.

An example to help my point: Americans will never recognize a contemporary politician as a new "founding father", no mater how capable or dedicated he is. You don't compare with the founding fathers because you don't expect to ever have something worth comparing (although this is not necessarily true).

@pichurka, I don't agree with you. Big start appears sporadically but it is hard to see how they arise when they are just arising. You need time to pass by in order to evaluate their true magnitude.
Lady Gaga's youtube videos are amongst the most viewed ones. And she is probably more influential on popular culture than Madonna in her early years.

I think the time of great stars is gone now. Lady Gaga is good, sounds like, looks like Madonna, but she'll never be such a huge celebrity Madonna once was.

I like her. She looks awful. She has commercial songs. But she is popular. And I just like her songs. She is cool herself and she would have become a decent alternative star but the popular media just reached her first.
She is not as beautiful as Madonna, but still very popular which means she's got talent!!!
