Goverment in Singapore is always trying to improve work quality of Singaporean's workers by trying to bring them to Workforce . Trying to introduce them to technology. "WDA : Singapore Workforce Development Agency" Singapore Goverment has been rewarding workers who try to improve their work quality by going for lessons. Why? Because there is a uprising usage of IT.

@Jiejing_Chan but some people who are unable to study because they dun have the time?? they might have a family to raise

@Melvin_Pokepoke One must be responsible for his own life or work life. He should upgrade himself constantly with the society rather than waiting for people to make him upgrade.

@Sj_Yong How can you be sure that people do not try to upgrade and improve themselves? Learning how to use technology is not simple. Also not everyone is given a chance to learn how to operate technology and in the first place if they are not even given a chance how do they even "upgrade" themselves

Add on to @Jiejing_Chan, in life, you cannot block people, but you can, over the internet ;)

@Wak_Lu User must be mature enough to ignore. It is the same thing as bullying in real life. It is up to the person to block the troller, or to ignore. The net is not entirely to blame for this. The net is made to have a good cause, but people use it for the bad. This cannot be helped. Firearms are invented for self defence, but people use it for war.
Humans will always try to use whatever means they can to achieve their goals.

The IT industry is beneficial socially cause if some people at another end of the world has cancer or something and needs help and money FAST, they can rely on IT so they get help cause there's many nice and rich people in the world

@Jiejing_Chan there are also some companies which do not sent their people to learn how to use com?? they will just hired people who knows how to use a computer rather then sending one to learn ?? save more moneyfor them this is the reality

@Sj_Yong That is the point.they will eventually forget the original word because they use too much short form.

@Lee_Guang_Jie If they can't be bothered about their lives then why should we bother? If they refuse to constantly upgrade themselves, or AT LEAST seek help, what to do?

@Jorython_Tan Again, it is the user's responsibility to know the limit.

Has anyone here been trolled before? Notice how trolling mostly occurs online? Why? Anonymity. If the person we are trolling doesn't know who we are, there's a very small chance he/she will actually beat us up.

And thus, the Internet is ruining everybody' life because it made trolling possible. Think about this for a second.

@Jorython_Tan if one has self discipline, they would know how to limit themselves on the time they use at these social networking sites.

@Liangzhi_Wong It simplifies typing, But like many other things, Do it at your own risk. Anyway how are you going to use shortform if you don't even know what's the full form of the acronym ?

@Melvin_Pokepoke Companies are now training their employees, no matter what age, to go for IT training. However, there are some that willingly refuse to go for this training as it is too difficult, etc. This is their own choice and the company cannot do anything about it. After a period of time, if the company completely changes to a computerised system, then it is the employees' lost for not going for this IT training.

@Sj_Yong Some people are not as good at studying as other. So are we going to put them down and just let them die?? Anyway one person doesn't necessary need education in order to have to basic skills to complete a job and how much things we learnt in school is actually applied in real life?

More technology will mean more disturbance . You see, when people go on to social networking sites, they become very attracted. High level of attraction, will mean logging on to those sites at a high level of frequency. Example, once you got internet connection, you log on to twitter, facebook.

There are many things that are impossible without the use of IT. eg. credit cards, air-traffic control, space travel.

@Liangzhi_Wong You cannot blame the net entirely for this. Am I typing in short form? Again, it is the user's responsibility to be able to know the line between when the should use short forms and when they should not.

IT has also made it easier for teachers to communicate with their students. Through E-learning, work is sent throught the internet. Therefore, money will be saved as teachers does not need to use paper / printing.

Whatever it is, it depends on how one uses the benefits of having technology nowadays. In my opinion, if someone knows how to limit themselves and use the social networking sites properly, then it is okay.

A greater amount of leisure time will improve people's quality of life.

IT brings good social impact cause look at those youtube users. The ones who sing really well or have a really good thing to show. With the help of technology, they get signed on and even paid really high sums because some producer at the other end of the world watched their video.

@Wak_Lu If it's not spreaded through internet, then how? If you say TV, TV also electricity, Radio, electricity, Newspaper, paper = burn down tree = global warming too. Logic?

Social sites can decrease the size of circle of friends in reality. People can communicate through social sites and messengers , which means lesser face to face communication.

on Oct 27, 2011

@Lee_Guang_Jie Robots can work 24/7. No need salary. No need breaks. Nowadays no one does hard labour like collecting chicken eggs as they have the degree and diploma to go for other better jobs, so it does not necessarily mean that much job opportunities are lost.

on Oct 27, 2011
@Sj_Yong

@Lee_Guang_Jie But it definitely would be more productive this way right, and the more machines we operate the more manpower would be required to maintain, and not everything could fully replaced by robots also what. Construction, Army, School etc still requires manpower, there's still so much of job opportunities, wai so serious ?

@Aineeyh_Germanotta More like it will bring social impact. By then, technology breakthroughs will make it possible that electricity bills are reduced.

on Oct 27, 2011

3

@Sj_Yong But how many human is required to operate the machine? For example in a chicken farms it used to require lots of labor such as collect eggs feeding the chickens but now a whole farm can just be operated by 4 person with the help of machine and how much job employment opportunities is lost

on Oct 27, 2011
@Wak_Lu
5

@Aineeyh_Germanotta And that is why (as Jiejing has mentioned) we have to know what our limit is.

But, of course, some people are just overly addicted and can never stop. That's already their problem.

on Oct 27, 2011
@Aineeyh_Germanotta

IT might not bring good economic impact on us also cause if we keep making robots and spend more money on computer, the electricity bill will be higher or something. and maybe the government may end up spending too much money on technology rather than the people

The introduction of IT has brought the current world to a greater height. People all around are able to communicate easily and freely, all thanks to IT. People can set up companies at different countries and also manage the companies with IT, which can contribute to the economy sector.
