What is PointDebate?
PointDebate is an online communication platform meant to stir up, engage and give voice to most diverse opinions. It is particularly suitable for leading debates on topical subjects, especially debates with two clearly distinguished opposing sides.
-
Who can participate?
Everybody can create debates or make points in existing debates if they are registered and logged on. You can either register in PointDebate with your email address or log in using your existing Facebook account.
-
How to start a debate?
When logged on, you should click on the "Create New Debate" button. In the "Create New Debate" page you must enter the debate title and optionally if your debate has two distinguished sides enter them as well. If you enter sides, you create a two-side debate.
-
How to take a side in a debate?
When logged on you can use the left or the right arrow in order to bias your point to the left or the right side in a two-side debate. Your point bias will be visually distinguished from other debaters when you post it. If you just want to take a side in a debate without providing an opinion you can just use the arrows to pick a side and this will also affect the the debate result.
-
How to rate a point?
When logged on you can rate a point in a debate page by clicking on the plus or minus signs at the upper right corner of a point. You can rate a certain point only once.
-
How are the support percentages calculated on two-side debates?
On two-side debate pages you are going to notice a bar showing the support percentages for each of the two sides. Each biased point or a vote increases the result of the side. A debater can vote only once in a debate. Their subsequent votes or biased points will not be counted in.
-
How to follow a debater?
When logged on you can start following a debater by clicking on the follow icon, on the right of the debater screen name. When you follow someone, their activities are going to appear in the Stream panel or the Stream page.
-
How to receive email notifications?
When logged on you can set up email notifications for various events, such as if someone you follow creates a new debate or if anyone makes a point in a debate created by you in the "Email notifications" tab of the Settings page. If you are logged on to PointDebate using your Facebook account you must first pass an email verification process in order to receive email notifications, since PointDebate does not retrieve this piece of information from Facebook.
-
How is the user rating calculated?
Every debater starts with 0 rating when he joins PointDebate. Every debater receives one rating point for each new point in a debate he/she has created unless the point is made by the debater himself/herself. Every debater receives 3 rating points for a positive rating he/she has made unless the point was rated by the debater himself/herself. Negative point ratings do not affect the point's author rating.
-
What is star mode?
In Star mode PointDebate doesn't show you every debate or point but only points and debates related to you or the debaters you follow, e.g. points and debates created by you or people you follow, replies to you or people you follow, and other points and debates that PointDebate thinks you might be interested in.
